Christmas 2025 - New Year 2026 - Number 11 Malta

  1. Watch the Valletta Christmas Lights Sparkle

A visit to the capital in December is a must. Valletta’s historic centre becomes a glowing festive scene, with over 600 metres of Christmas lights strung across Republic Street and beyond. A giant tree lights up Freedom Square, while shopfronts and churches are beautifully decorated. It’s free to visit and perfect for a cosy evening wander with a hot drink in hand.

  1. Step into Fairyland – Santa’s City

Just by Valletta’s City Gate at Triton Fountain, this annual Christmas attraction runs from early December through the first week of January. Expect a magical carousel, ice skating rink, festive food stalls and a towering Ferris wheel offering panoramic views of the city lights. A visit to Santa’s Grotto is a hit with families too. Entry to the village is free, with rides and activities available to purchase on site.

  1. Visit Malta’s Largest Christmas Market in Rabat

From 5th to 14th December, the picturesque town of Rabat hosts Natalis Notabilis, Malta’s largest Christmas village. Wooden stalls line the streets around St Paul’s Church, offering handmade gifts, seasonal treats and live entertainment. It’s an ideal spot for browsing unique souvenirs or enjoying a festive evening out. Entry is free and it runs nightly from around 6pm.

  1. Explore the Magical Illuminated Trail at Verdala Palace

For a winter wonderland experience, don’t miss the illuminated trail at Verdala Palace in Buskett. Starting late November and running through early January, this outdoor light installation features themed lanterns, music and interactive displays in a woodland setting. A separate Christmas Village area with food stalls rounds off the experience. Tickets are required and should be booked in advance.

Christmas 2025 - New Year 2026 - Number 11 Malta

  1. Experience Gozo’s Bethlehem f’Għajnsielem

If you fancy a day trip to Gozo, time your visit to see this incredible live nativity village. Open on selected days between 14th December and 4th January, actors, live animals and rustic scenes bring the Bethlehem story to life across Ta’ Passi fields in Għajnsielem. Entry is free and it’s one of the most authentic festive events in the islands.

  1. Catch a Christmas Panto at Teatru Manoel

Malta’s favourite holiday tradition returns to Valletta’s national theatre from 21st December to 5th January. This year’s show is Ali Baba – The Panto, a laugh-out-loud musical perfect for families, with colourful costumes, local humour and plenty of audience participation. Performances are in English and tickets tend to sell out quickly.

Christmas 2025 - NYE 2026 Malta

  1. Welcome 2026 with Malta’s National NYE Celebration

If you’re staying for the New Year, head back to Valletta’s St George’s Square for the biggest party on the island. The National New Year’s Eve Celebration features free live concerts, DJs and a huge midnight countdown, followed by fireworks over the Grand Harbour. It’s a vibrant, high-energy way to ring in the new year Maltese-style.
